Cervélo - Wild and team win decisively at Rabo Ster Zeeland

21.6.2010

Kirsten Wild (NED) and her Cervélo TestTeam mates rode to victory today at the final stage of the 2010 Rabo Ster Zeeland. Wild finished fourth in today’s stage and captured the GC yellow jersey competition as well as the green points jersey. Teammate Iris Slappendel (NED) finished second in today’s stage and also won the red sprinters jersey. Elizabeth Armitstead (GBR) also took home the white best young rider jersey. The squad also won best team as well.

“Today’s third stage was very hard because there was a lot of wind. At the end of the stage, because of that wind, the bunch broke into several groups. At the very end there were three riders at the final. Iris Slappendel finished second today and in the GC overall as well,” said Egon van Kessel, Sport Director. ”We completed the race with five riders in the GC top ten. Iris, along with Regina Bruins (NED), Sarah Düester (GER), Elizabeth Armitstead (GBR) and of course Kirsten Wild who won the GC. Unfortunately, Charlotte Becker (GER) did not make it. She had some brake problems today, which was too bad because she was second in the GC when we started today.”

"Today’s stage was a hard one with lots of cross wind on the dikes and bridges but our team took control and we broke the peloton,” said Kirsten Wild, following her victory at Rabo Ster Zeeland. “At the end Iris was in the break so the others had to work and she was also close in the GC, so it was perfect teamwork! I am happy and have good feelings for the nationals next week. But we will see."
