Matrix sponsors Vision 1 Racing

8.3.2009

Matrix Fitness Systems a leading global commercial fitness equipment brand has signed up as the latest company to Sponsor Vision One racing and support Olympic cyclist Nicole Cooke in her quest to help young riders achieve their cycling ambitions and ensure medal success at London 2012.

Cooke, who made history by becoming an Olympic and World Road Cycling Champion in the same year in 2008, has formed Vision 1 Racing, a four-year project that aims to repeat the success of the 2008 Olympics in 2012.

Nicole's vision is to create a strong team in women's cycling and Matrix Fitness Systems has been selected as the exclusive fitness equipment supplier to Vision 1. As well as co-sponsoring the Vision 1 team, Matrix will be supplying indoor cycling groups with its My Ride and Matrix Tomahawk products.

The news is a welcome boost to the sport of women's cycling, particularly during this period of economic uncertainty which has forced the Royal Bank of Scotland to end its sponsorship of the Williams Formula One team next year.

Jon Johnston, Managing Director of Matrix Fitness Systems, says: "It's only three years until the Olympics and with the current economic crisis, it's more important than ever to support both our established and our up-and-coming athletes. At Matrix, we believe in working with role models who lead by example and who inspire future talent''.

"Since her achievements in 2008, Nicole has demonstrated a firm commitment to encouraging the next generation of women's cyclists and we're proud to help her give something back to this fast growing sport."

"I am really happy to work with Matrix. They provide excellent equipment which will help all the riders of Vision 1 Racing get the most out of their training as we work towards our goals this season," says Nicole Cooke.

The team consists of nine young riders from across Europe, who are currently preparing for the first race of the season - the Costa Etrusca in Italy. The aim is to increase the squad to up to 12 riders in the next two seasons.
