Teamwork earns Bigla Cycling Team its first UCI points 2014

24.3.2014

Martina Zwick and Lotta Lepistö finishing 7th and 8th at GP Cornaredo +++ "Fantastic teamwork"

Martina Zwick and Lotta Lepistö finished GP di Comune Cornaredo (UCI 1.2) in 7th and 8th place so that Bigla Cycling Team earned its first UCI points for 2014.
With most teams fielding nine riders, it made for an aggressive, fast race through the narrow, technical streets of Cornaredo.A dangerous early break containing eventual winner Shelley Olds (Alé Cipollini), Trixi Worrack (Specialized-lululemon) and Charlotte Becker (Wiggle-Honda) formed in the first half of the 121 kilometer one-day race. They had an advantage that peaked at over one minute. Bigla Cycling Team unfortunately weren’t represented and worked hard to bring the breakaway back. Once caught, attacks continued from multiple teams, however attempts for another breakaway to be formed failed.

A small group of around 20 riders came to the finish for a bunch sprint, which contained Bigla riders, Martina Zwick and Lotto Lepistö. They sprinted for Bigla’s first UCI points for the season, finishing 7th and 8th. “Well done”, sports director Ernst Meier praised. “The girls worked together really well, it was fantastic teamwork.”

After a disappointing weekend in the Netherlands last week, the team was excited by the top 10 result and is looking forward to the coming weekend's races in both Italy and Belgium.
