Time trial for professional women kicks off Heydar Aliyev Anniversary Tour

8.5.2012

The Heydar Aliyev Anniversary Tour for riders under 23 years will take place from 9 to 13 May 2012. Before the U23 riders get on the road, a time trial for professional women cyclists will take place in Baku.

Start and finish in Freedom Square
The women's race against the clock will cover 26 kilometres. Starting from Freedom Square in Baku, the riders will head to the Monument Zig Airport Highway, which will be the turnaround in the race. The riders will then head back to the finish in Freedom Square. The route is almost completely flat, but the wind from the sea will make it difficult.

World-class and Azerbaijani riders
Well-known professional women cyclists such as 2010 world time trial champion Emma Pooley (AA Drink) and Emma Trott (Dolmans-Boels) are on the start list for the time trial. It also will be a special day for Elena Tchalykh (Dolmans-Boels), who will ride in her home country. The Azerbaijani Cycling Federation has recently launched a partnership with the Dutch UCI women's team Dolmans-Boels in order to develop women's cycling in Azerbaijan.
