Cervélo - Emilie Aubry wins her first title as Swiss National Road Champion
27.6.2010
Cervélo TestTeam’s Emilie Aubry claimed victory today in the Swiss National Road Championships in Kriegsstetten. The 21-year rider from the western part of Switzerland took the title on the 118 km course in a sprint finish, ahead of Pascale Schnider (bike-import.ch) and Doris Schweizer (Bigla Cycling Team).
It was a quite a heavy course in Kriegsstetten and the field was focused on our riders, expecting a strong performance from the Cervélo TestTeam. Patricia Schwager and Emilie Aubry were riding in the group and took it easy in the first part until they started to attack the peloton with a one-on-one tactic. Patricia Schwager was able to escape with a good group but the field chased them back with about 30 km to go. Then Aubry found a chance and attacked together with Pascale Schnider and Doris Schweizer. The group worked well and was able to increase their gap right to the finish. Doris Schweizer moved first with about 700 meters to go but Aubry and Schnider wouldn’t let her go. In a tight photo finish Aubry won her first national title ahead of Pascale Schnider with Doris Schweizer finishing third. The peloton finished 28 seconds behind.
“It is my first big victory and it means a lot for me to win and wear the national jersey,” said a happy Emilie Aubry after the race. “This is payment for all my past hard work. But I really have to say thank you to Patricia, my teammate. We worked together throughout the race and she definitely deserves a big part of this victory.”
