Cervélo - Emma Pooley wins Tour de l'Aude

24.5.2010

Emma Pooley has won the overall ranking in one of the most prestigious race in women’s cycling, the Tour de l’Aude (UCI 2.1). The 27-year- old British rider led the competition, which has taken place over 874.40 km, since stage 4. Cervélo TestTeam did an incredible job during the entire Tour, especially in the mountains and also won the team classification.

Today, the team controlled the race to ensure that the yellow jersey was never in danger. The 90.5 km stage, around Carcassonne, finished in a bunch sprint. Ina Yoko Teutenberg (GER) had the fastest legs taking the victory ahead of Marianne Vos (NED) and Angela Hennig (GER).

“Today, once again the stage final came down to a bunch sprint. There was an attack by Vos and her team mates but we didn’t chase it back as there was never a danger for the GC and the sprinter teams were working on it. At the end, there was a mass arrival at the finish and Ina Yoko Teutenberg claimed victory. We are very pleased about our second stage race victory this season. The team was just awesome. We managed to win the GC, had four stage victories, the mountain jersey, as well as winning the team classification. We will enjoy the victory and focus now on our next main goal – the Giro Donne.”

“The race today was a little bit stressful, but the team, as it was been for this entire Tour was just fantastic. They were always with me and showed time and again that we were the strongest team,” stated Emma Pooley after the last stage. “I feel amazing today and very happy with my Tour victory – it is the first time I have won a big stage race. Together, our team will now enjoy the victory and celebrate by having some ice cream.”
